How to Protect Your Skin on Long Flights

Whether you’re lounging on a beach or walking the streets of some quaint European village this summer, you’re bound to have to endure at least one long-haul flight to get there. Apart from boredom, irritation and restlessness, one of the most dreaded side-effects of travel is the effect it has on our skin. Dry, dull and dehydrated skin is not the best way to start any vacation- nor the ideal way to get back to the daily grind- and it takes some planning and discipline to avoid it. Here are some of the best tips to keep your precious skin safe from the ill-effects of air travel this vacation season.

  1. Hydrate & Moisturize:

You’ve definitely heard this one before- drinking copious amounts of water during flights is a surefire way to avoid dry skin and dandruff. However, that also means having to get off your seat and join the queue outside the toilets, some of which are not always in the best condition. An alternative method to hydrate is to use a moisturizer- the creamier the better- and a hydrating mist that you can apply onto your skin at regular intervals. This will keep dry and flakey skin at bay while leaving you feeling fresh as ever.

Hydraulic acid is another way to give your skin a boost of hydration. My favorite is the Hyaluronic Ampoules from Dr. Barbara Sturm that are compact and can be applied before take-off for maximum benefit. A lip balm is also a must to keep your lips from cracking.

  1. Avoid Makeup

While it’s tempting to apply your regular concealer or swipe off lipstick, it might be better to take a break from makeup while flying. Air travel is already dehydrating for your skin, and adding a layer of makeup can worsen the effects and create the perfect base for breakouts. A better option may be to apply makeup immediately before landing to look presentable when you step out. If you do insist on wearing makeup in-flight, however, make sure not to use a heavy foundation and opt for mineral based products that won’t clog your pores.

  1. Don’t Skip Your Sunscreen

It’s bad enough not using ample SPF while you’re on the ground, but it’s even worse when you’re high up in the air and much closer to the sun. Opt for a sunscreen that has an SPF of 50 or more and apply it every two hours whilst traveling.

  1. Use A Mask

Turn your long flight into a spa session with a simple mask and a good movie! This effective, compact and easy to throw away method will keep your skin fresh throughout your flight. If you’re uncomfortable slapping on a mask while sitting next to a complete stranger, there are lots of discreet options available on the market that go on transparent and can be left on as a moisturizer. I like to use a Facial Ritual jade or rose quartz roller over the mask to drain any puffiness or fluid buildup. Applying your mask about an hour before landing will ensure a gorgeous glow as soon as your step off!

  1. Avoid In-Flight Food And Alcohol

As tempting as it may be to take a sip of wine during a flight, the dehydrating effects of alcohol will only serve to worsen the dryness in your skin. And when it comes to food, airplane meals often contain a high concentration of salt to counteract the drop in our taste buds at such a high altitude. This causes our bodies to retain more water, making us look bloated and puffy. To keep this at a minimum, opt for bland foods and swap your alcohol for water and herbal tea to keep you refreshed. Or, better yet, carry your own food packs to enjoy during the journey.

  1. Use The Right Products

Protecting your skin is not about investing in products but investing in the right ones. When it comes to travel, my go-to brand is Biologique Recherche (also available at The White Door Spa in Bandra and Spa in Worli), because of their travel-friendly sizes. My favorites include the Lait VIP O2, an “anti pollution” cleanser that removes toxins, and the Lotion P50, a wonder-product that exfoliates, brightens and hydrates the skin.

  1. Get Your Beauty Sleep

They call is beauty sleep for a reason! A long, peaceful snooze will ensure your body is well rested, thus making sure your skin does not look tired or exhausted when you land. Carrying a Dame Essentials silk pillowcase and eye mask helps retain the natural moisture in your skin and hair while giving you a comfortable and luxurious sleep. Another trick I like is to use compression socks for maximum comfort and to maintain proper blood flow.

Holi Hai! – Help Your Skin and Hair

Holi marks the arrival of spring, and being the most vibrant and colorful festival, it is easy to get carried away by the festivities. It is therefore necessary to prepare your skin and hair care checklist in advance. Make sure to follow the below tips to avoid color stained faces, parched hair and irritated skin without missing out on the fun.

PRE HOLI: HYDRATION, SHIELDING AND AVOIDING EXTRACTION ARE THE KEY TO PRE-HOLI SAFETY.

1.            If you want smooth, hairless skin before Holi, plan well in advance. Avoid any hair removal, be it laser, waxing, threading or shaving three to four days before Holi, as these leave your skin sensitive and pores open. Furthermore, coming in contact with colors could leave your skin with rashes or cause irritation.

TIP: Get waxing done after Holi as it will help get rid of tanning or any leftover color, or at least a minimum of seven to ten days before the festival.

2.            Do you prefer wearing makeup for Holi? Do so only if you are planning to play with dry colors. A layer of foundation on your face or neck may protect your skin from color damage, but try and avoid it for sure if water is involved.

TIP: Avoid makeup, especially kajal and mascara liners. Apply a thick coat of lip balm and a light shade of waterproof lipstick if you must.

3.            Make sure to keep your hair and skin safe by shielding them in the right manner. This will keep the harmful toxins away and prevent dry and frizzy hair. Apply a sufficient layer of oil from the scalp to the tip of your hair. Any good coconut, almond or jojoba oil, especially around the hairline, will repel the colored water and protect you significantly from damage.

TIP:  Consider mixing castor oil or a few drops of lemon in your hair oil.

TIP:  Avoid shampooing a day before or on the day of Holi as it will cause you to loose all your natural oils.

TIP:  Braid or tie your hair, or wear a cap or bandana for further protection.

4.            Moisturising your body is as important as moisturising your face, as it will shield your skin from irritation and damage. Apply oil or a heavy duty moisturiser all over your body- including feet, legs, hands and elbows- about twenty to twenty five minutes before you leave to avoid any itching or rashes.

TIP: For the face, you may opt for a cold cream formula. Don’t forget to apply generously on your face, neck and ears.

5.            The moisturiser alone will not be sufficient when constantly under the sun in the water, as it will increase the chances of making your skin patchy. Make sure to apply a generous layer of sunscreen on exposed skin areas. This will also help protect you from color stains.

TIP: Make sure to select the moisturiser or sunscreen with the right SPF as per your requirement and skin type.

TIP: Apply some petroleum jelly behind and inside your earlobes.

TIP: Apply a lip balm with SPF on your lips.

TIP: Avoid a facial at least one week prior to Holi.

6.            One aspect you cannot forget is your nails, which can remain stained for a long time due to their porous nature. Make sure to apply a dark-colored polish a day in advance.

TIP: Apply oil or petroleum jelly around your fingertips and cuticles.

7.            Choose your clothing wisely. Dark colored, full sleeved cotton clothes would be the ideal choice and comfortable to carry.

POST HOLI:  Avoid scrubbing you body. Stand under running water and rinse off the color with water.

8.            Make sure to remove the color methodically using cotton swabs before using any body wash or soaps. Avoid using soap that is alkaline and makes the skin dry. Very hot water can also dry the skin, so keep it lukewarm.

TIP: Use a natural exfoliant like lemon peel or gram flour paste with milk before using a gentle body cleanser.

9.            Moisturise your skin well after your shower to avoid any dryness. Apply a gentle face cream as per your skin type as well.

TIP: Apply aloe Vera gel or lacto calamine for minor breakouts.

10.          Book an appointment at The White Door, your favourite skin and nail spa in Bandra, or at our Beauty & Nail Spa in Worli and ask for soothing services like a manipedi, calming face mask, or a head massage to rinse off any residue from the festivities.

·         Keep a gap of five to seven days for a facial if you have any irritation or breakouts. Consult with your technician on the same. Book a facial spa in Bandra or Worli at The White Door where you can speak to any of our professionally trained staff about your skin requirements.

·         A detox pedicure would go a long way to eliminate the toxic effects your body displays. Book a pedicure in Bandra or pedicure in worli at our spa to get rid of any toxicity while enjoying the benefits of a relaxing massage. We even offer Nail extensions, nail art, manicures in Bandra or a manicure in worli for those looking to get rid of any residual color or other damage.

·         Hydrate: Drink atleast two to three litres of water.

Spa-rty Away This Monsoon - Opt for a rejuvenating spa-day to shoo away your monsoon blues

After the scorching heat of the unforgiving summer sun, we eagerly wait for the arrival of the monsoon. Unfortunately, the change in climate also means it is time to modify one’s skin care routine. The Rain can cause your skin to act erratically. Sometimes it gets extremely oily and may break it out into nasty acne and sometimes it feels dry and strained. It is vital to adapt to a suitable skincare ritual to keep your skin feeling loved and supple. On those days when it is difficult to give your skin the care and attention that it needs, allow the services of a spa in Bandra and Spa in Worli to come into play.

You can opt for one of the many facials available at the spa, including the Absolute Clean-up, which deep cleanses every pore of your skin or the Acne Defence, which is proven to work effectively for blemishes, clogged pores, excessive sebum and results in even complexion, removes blemish marks and soothes blemish prone skin. The other options for facials are the Stress Buster, which is a re-boosting facial mask; it helps bring back your natural skin tone that has been tarnished in the sticky and dusty weather. And lastly opt for the Shine Bright facial, ideal for uneven skin tone, tanned and pigmented skin and dull complexion, which helps reduce hyper-pigmentation, brightens and restores your skin, and reduces age spots.

Remember not to ignore your feet, which wade through murky streets, by choosing between the two highly specialized pedicures: Tame the Tan and Fatigue Fix, which will cleanse and relax your feet through extreme weather conditions.

These surprising benefits are the reasons why men too need pedicures

There was a time when talking of pedicures for men was looked at as comparing chalk and cheese. It was okay for men to consider living with calluses and ingrown nails, but not anymore. Today’s metrosexual man, an out-of-the-box thinkeror a corporate figure, knows the importance of grooming. Hence, men’s pedicures have become a natural way of life, just as shaving and grooming the moustache are. The benefits of pedicures are many; they not only make you look good but also contribute towards your health:
It improves the overall health of the feet
One of the best ways to keep your feet in a good, healthy condition is to go for a Classic pedicure. With the right technique and sterilized tools, the estheticians trim, clean and buff the nails, scrub the feet, moisturize the cuticles, and also assist in healthy blood flow in the feet.In the process, the expert pedicurist exfoliates dead skin cells, repairs ingrown nails and calluses, and perks up your mood with a relaxing foot soak &foot massage that gets you charged-up to take on the day.
It relieves you of stress and fatigue
If your profession demands you to be on your toes all day long or if you’re an athlete who wants to put an end to aching calves and muscles or if you’re an uncompromising gym enthusiast, then a pedicure is all you need. A Sportsman’s Pedicure or a Fatigue Fix pedicure curated with essential ingredients re-infuses your feet with life and energy and helps relieve pain in the aching muscles, making you feel rejuvenated. While a trained professional massages your feet with muscle de-stressing oil, sit back and read your favorite novel or watch a Netflix favorite. Is this any less than the much-needed bliss?
It tackles foot odour head on
Because of wearing socks all day long, sweating in the feet resulting in foot odour is something we’ve all experienced. Also, your feet are a storehouse of bodily toxins from the constant wear and tear of a hectic life, which is why the pedicure benefits for men are many. When you reward them with a Detox pedicure, comprising of detoxifying agents like green tea, kale, mint, and spirulina, you flush out the toxins from your feet and also get rid of any bacteria nestling underneath, curbing foot odour right at its budding stage.
It eliminates tanning of the feet
Spending too much time in the sun often makes the skin dry and tanned, in addition to looking prematurely aged. In order to keep these issues at bay, pampering your feet with anAnti-Ageing pedicure or a Whitening pedicure pays off well. Power-packed ingredients like rose oil, raw coffee (anti-ageing),calamine clay and red sandalwood (whitening) rehydrate your skin and lighten its complexion, resulting in happy and healthy feet.
It keeps infections and foot ailments at bay
When you rely on your feet to perform optimally all day long, the last thing you would want is foot pain. Corns, ingrown nails, bunions, fungus, calluses, etc. are as painful in nature as they are unsightly to look at. Getting a pedicure on a regular basis helps to tackle these common foot ailments, and hence cuts down on your trips to a podiatrist.
Because pedicures are a wonderful way to relax and unwind, going for the treatment with loved ones is gaining prominence. You get to spend some much-needed quality time with someone dear– your better half, friends, kids. It also keeps at bay the stress from living in a busy city like Mumbai. However, selecting the right salon before you and your loved ones book a family pedicure session is as important as getting a pedicure in the first place. A trusted salon follows strict hygiene standards, houses only qualified staff, and uses the best products. The White Door Spa in Bandra is one such example where we provide Pedicures in Bandra West.

Curb your Cellulite woes with Anti-Cellulite Treatments

Perhaps it’s the only thing that everyone has and is ashamed to talk about. Also known as orange peel skin, mattress phenomenon, and cottage-cheese skin, cellulite refers to dimpled, lumpy flesh on the skin that gives it a saggy, ugly appearance. The condition mainly affects the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs, though it can be seen in other body parts as well.

One of the common causes of cellulite is an interaction between the layers of fat and the connective tissue beneath the skin. Typically, women are at a higher risk than men. Estrogen, thyroid, and insulin contribute to cellulite, and people who eat excess fatty foods, carbohydrates, and salt along with less fiber are prone to having this problem.

Combating cellulite is necessary as it helps get rid of the dimpled skin and gives it a firmer and more toned appearance. At The White Door, the best spa in Bandra, we offer you the world’s most advanced Cellulite Controller Treatments, exclusively created using superlative Pythomer products. These non-invasive treatments are a blessing in disguise for saying goodbye to diet and workout-resistant fat.

Thermo-reducing clay:
Acting like a fat burner, it has a contouring effect through a specific oxido reduction reaction. The activated clay promotes the absorption and elimination of fat and toxins. Boasting a unique self-healing system, the lipolytic action of the fine components splits the deep-set cellulite, thus firming the skin.

Contouring concentrate:
By splitting the large drops of fat to help remove them, this product promotes cellulite drainage and reduces the orange peel effect. Its lasting effect on the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs stimulates micro-circulation and limits fat storage.

Reshaping serum:
With its special focus on the abdomen, the serum promotes the expansion of the adipose tissue to decrease the appearance of cellulite. The specific lipolytic actives impart a remodeling effect, stimulate micro-circulation and lymphatic drainage, and increase the synthesis of collagen.

Firming spray:
Its smoothing action and refreshing effect aids in the drainage and decongestion of tissues in the buttocks and thighs. The exceptional ingredients infused in the product increase the firmness and tone of the skin, fortify the epidermis and prevent cellular fatigue.

The White Door in Bandra West provides a luxurious experience while sticking to international hygiene standards. Our Anti Cellulite massage spa in Bandra west is ideal for managing deep set cellulite, saddlebags, or curves located in the waist-knee area. The estheticians at The White Door, Bandra west are renowned for providing anti-cellulite massage in Bandra. Because we are committed to client wellness, we ensure that your unique needs are best-taken care of. Some of the benefits of our Cellulite Controller Treatments are improved blood circulation, reversed skin slackening, and well-toned and supple skin.

The underlying principle behind curbing cellulite treatments like the Anti Cellulite massage spa is to promote the elimination of toxins and prevent their further buildup. A healthy lifestyle goes a long way in keeping you in good shape. To flush toxins out from the body, keep yourself well hydrated throughout the day. Fresh fruits and vegetables should constitute a major part of your diet as the alkaline content in them prevents the buildup of toxins in the body. Gently massage areas that have celluliteto stimulate the lymphatic system. Exercise regularly, move around orindulge in cardio or strength training to dissolve the fat in the skin. Include cellulite fighting foods likes almon, sunflower seeds, dark berries like blackberries and blueberries, olive oil, and dark chocolate in your diet plan.
Curbing cellulite may seem tedious at first. But, with a little care and effort, you can curb your cellulite woes and keep firm and toned skin like you’ve always dreamt of!

Discover the Power of Gold in Skincare

Though Cleopatra popularized gold as a beauty ingredient, the use of gold in skin care products for various skin treatments, was very well known and used by Japanese, Romans, and Egyptians since early times. As babies, even our grandmothers fed us honey, infused with edible gold.  In ancient Chinese and Ayurveda medicines, gold was used as an ingredient for youthful-looking skin or improving the overall body health. It may sound a bit miraculous for this metal’s capacity to transform daily skincare processes, but there is actually a deep science behind it.
Some of the benefits of gold in skincare are:

·         Gold is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.
·         It has reflective particles that help in fighting acne and allergies.
·         Gold stimulates the skin cells and plays a role in increasing skin elasticity.
·         Because the metal has rejuvenating properties, it lightens skin complexion.
Read on for more detailed benefits of gold for your skin and wellness:

1. Gold is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties

Gold is supposed to have anti-inflammatory properties, due to which the metal can calm acne inflammation, help reduce redness, heal sun damaged or sensitive skin, fight hyper pigmentation, or protect the skin from environmental aggressors that cause wrinkles.

2. It is a powerhouse of anti-ageing benefits

If your concern is ageing skin, the use of gold helps to retexture and repair skin damage, reduce the breakdown of elastin and restore the elasticity of the tissues, creating a firming effect.
3. It has radiance boosting properties
Gold, due to its light reflecting quality, helps to create a brightening effect, making the skin appear smoother, softer, and supple.
4. Gold helpsin the stimulation of skin cells
Certain ion properties in gold help in the stimulation of skin cells, nerves, and veins in your body, leading to improved blood circulation and increase in the metabolism of skin cells that secrete biological waste.

5. Gold has rejuvenating properties

Apart from the brightening effects of gold, it also has a soothing and harmonizing effect on your physical, mental, and spiritual state. Some striking properties of gold impart it to help stabilize body temperature.
At The White Door - Spa in Bandra west and Spa in Worli, we have introduced an exclusive pure gold manicure and pedicure that not only adds that glow to your skin but also leaves you feeling truly pampered.  This 3 step process that includes The Gold Bless Serum / The Gold Bless Patch and Gold Inner beauty work together to give you the end result you want– a beautiful and transformed you, both from within and outside.
