Why double dipping waxing can be dangerous for you
More often than not, waxing is a squirmish experience for most of us, especially when it comes to a bikini wax. After all, don’t we feel naked and examined minutely by the piercing, intimidating eyes of the esthetician? But ladies, hang on. If you’re only worried about shedding your robes and exposing your skin to a stranger, think twice, for it seems that there is a bigger evil to steer clear from – double dipping wax.Double dipping is the practice of dipping a spatula in a wax pot, applying the scooped wax on the skin, and re-dipping the same spatula in the same wax pot multiple times. Think of it like dipping a tortilla chip in salsa sauce, taking a bite, and re-dipping the same chip (that now has your saliva on it) in the sauce. Gross, isn’t it? No wonder that leading countries in the world like the US, the UK, and Canada have raised red flags on double dipping. In this blog, we’ll explain why this practice is dangerous for you and why you should say NO to this evil at the salon once and for all.
It is a breeding ground for bacteria and germs
Salons who advocate for double dipping argue that the high temperature in the wax pot kills bacteria and prevents their multiplication. Wrong.
To keep bacteria and germs at bay, wax needs to be heated to a minimum of 170 degrees Fahrenheit, which is close to 76 degrees Celsius. Heating wax to such a high temperature will only result in skin inflammation, rashes, damaged tissues, and folliculitis, the condition wherein bacteria gets into the hair follicles and creates pustules on the skin.
Thus, for minimizing such risks, the temperature inside the wax pot is kept slightly higher than the body temperature, i.e., around 55 to 60 degrees, making it an ideal, nasty home to germs and bacteria.
You run the risk of catching infections and diseases
Just picture this: you are treated with the same spatula that has extracted hair and accumulated sweat from a woman’s underarms. To make matters yuckier, consider that the spatula isn’t even sterilized.
When waxing the underarms, the exposed follicles tend to secrete more bodily fluids.Re-dipping the spatula deposits the remnants of perspiration into the wax pot. Add to it the danger of contracting STDs, bacterial infections like staph, and other problems that can be passed on to you.
Some salons are trained to believe that it is safe to double dip unless there is blood on the spatula or going for a bikini wax. However, the truth is that double dipping compromises on the integrity of your skin and takes a toll on your health too.
So, how to ensure that you are not a victim of double dipping?
Our advice is that you should trust a beauty salon in Mumbai that maintains NO DOUBLE DIP policy. Every time the esthetician uses afresh applicator, the salon gives you a clean, safe, relaxed atmosphere where you are treated with nothing but the best world-class techniques and products.
At The White Door, a leading luxury spa and salon in Bandra,we focus on your health and hygiene, rather than indulging in double dipping for cost-cutting. The natural ingredients used in our products gently exfoliate dead skin cells, without producing any side-effects like skin burns and itching. Since we do not re-dip spatulas and sterilize the wax pot after every waxing session, there is no scope of bacteria breeding in the salon and the subsequent spreading of infections.
With all our products imported from Cerepril, we guarantee zero hair, gorgeously moisturized skin, and nothing but a painless, hygienic waxing session. We do not compromise on the integrity of your skin but help you discover smooth, superior, and soft skin so that you feel beautiful, gorgeous and rejuvenated, both from the inside and outside.
Be it Waxing for Arms or Underarms, Face or Bikini waxing in Bandra, Cerepril has a diverse formula for each body part and the pre and post wax products make a true beauty Treatment.

How to Protect Your Skin on Long Flights
Whether you’re lounging on a beach or walking the streets of some quaint European village this summer, you’re bound to have to endure at least one long-haul flight to get there. Apart from boredom, irritation and restlessness, one of the most dreaded side-effects of travel is the effect it has on our skin. Dry, dull and dehydrated skin is not the best way to start any vacation- nor the ideal way to get back to the daily grind- and it takes some planning and discipline to avoid it. Here are some of the best tips to keep your precious skin safe from the ill-effects of air travel this vacation season.

- Hydrate & Moisturize:
You’ve definitely heard this one before- drinking copious amounts of water during flights is a surefire way to avoid dry skin and dandruff. However, that also means having to get off your seat and join the queue outside the toilets, some of which are not always in the best condition. An alternative method to hydrate is to use a moisturizer- the creamier the better- and a hydrating mist that you can apply onto your skin at regular intervals. This will keep dry and flakey skin at bay while leaving you feeling fresh as ever.
Hydraulic acid is another way to give your skin a boost of hydration. My favorite is the Hyaluronic Ampoules from Dr. Barbara Sturm that are compact and can be applied before take-off for maximum benefit. A lip balm is also a must to keep your lips from cracking.
- Avoid Makeup
While it’s tempting to apply your regular concealer or swipe off lipstick, it might be better to take a break from makeup while flying. Air travel is already dehydrating for your skin, and adding a layer of makeup can worsen the effects and create the perfect base for breakouts. A better option may be to apply makeup immediately before landing to look presentable when you step out. If you do insist on wearing makeup in-flight, however, make sure not to use a heavy foundation and opt for mineral based products that won’t clog your pores.
- Don’t Skip Your Sunscreen
It’s bad enough not using ample SPF while you’re on the ground, but it’s even worse when you’re high up in the air and much closer to the sun. Opt for a sunscreen that has an SPF of 50 or more and apply it every two hours whilst traveling.
- Use A Mask
Turn your long flight into a spa session with a simple mask and a good movie! This effective, compact and easy to throw away method will keep your skin fresh throughout your flight. If you’re uncomfortable slapping on a mask while sitting next to a complete stranger, there are lots of discreet options available on the market that go on transparent and can be left on as a moisturizer. I like to use a Facial Ritual jade or rose quartz roller over the mask to drain any puffiness or fluid buildup. Applying your mask about an hour before landing will ensure a gorgeous glow as soon as your step off!
- Avoid In-Flight Food And Alcohol
As tempting as it may be to take a sip of wine during a flight, the dehydrating effects of alcohol will only serve to worsen the dryness in your skin. And when it comes to food, airplane meals often contain a high concentration of salt to counteract the drop in our taste buds at such a high altitude. This causes our bodies to retain more water, making us look bloated and puffy. To keep this at a minimum, opt for bland foods and swap your alcohol for water and herbal tea to keep you refreshed. Or, better yet, carry your own food packs to enjoy during the journey.
- Use The Right Products
Protecting your skin is not about investing in products but investing in the right ones. When it comes to travel, my go-to brand is Biologique Recherche (also available at The White Door Spa in Bandra and Spa in Worli), because of their travel-friendly sizes. My favorites include the Lait VIP O2, an “anti pollution” cleanser that removes toxins, and the Lotion P50, a wonder-product that exfoliates, brightens and hydrates the skin.
- Get Your Beauty Sleep
They call is beauty sleep for a reason! A long, peaceful snooze will ensure your body is well rested, thus making sure your skin does not look tired or exhausted when you land. Carrying a Dame Essentials silk pillowcase and eye mask helps retain the natural moisture in your skin and hair while giving you a comfortable and luxurious sleep. Another trick I like is to use compression socks for maximum comfort and to maintain proper blood flow.

Holi Hai! – Help Your Skin and Hair
Holi marks the arrival of spring, and being the most vibrant and colorful festival, it is easy to get carried away by the festivities. It is therefore necessary to prepare your skin and hair care checklist in advance. Make sure to follow the below tips to avoid color stained faces, parched hair and irritated skin without missing out on the fun.
PRE HOLI: HYDRATION, SHIELDING AND AVOIDING EXTRACTION ARE THE KEY TO PRE-HOLI SAFETY.
1. If you want smooth, hairless skin before Holi, plan well in advance. Avoid any hair removal, be it laser, waxing, threading or shaving three to four days before Holi, as these leave your skin sensitive and pores open. Furthermore, coming in contact with colors could leave your skin with rashes or cause irritation.
TIP: Get waxing done after Holi as it will help get rid of tanning or any leftover color, or at least a minimum of seven to ten days before the festival.
2. Do you prefer wearing makeup for Holi? Do so only if you are planning to play with dry colors. A layer of foundation on your face or neck may protect your skin from color damage, but try and avoid it for sure if water is involved.
TIP: Avoid makeup, especially kajal and mascara liners. Apply a thick coat of lip balm and a light shade of waterproof lipstick if you must.
3. Make sure to keep your hair and skin safe by shielding them in the right manner. This will keep the harmful toxins away and prevent dry and frizzy hair. Apply a sufficient layer of oil from the scalp to the tip of your hair. Any good coconut, almond or jojoba oil, especially around the hairline, will repel the colored water and protect you significantly from damage.
TIP: Consider mixing castor oil or a few drops of lemon in your hair oil.
TIP: Avoid shampooing a day before or on the day of Holi as it will cause you to loose all your natural oils.
TIP: Braid or tie your hair, or wear a cap or bandana for further protection.
4. Moisturising your body is as important as moisturising your face, as it will shield your skin from irritation and damage. Apply oil or a heavy duty moisturiser all over your body- including feet, legs, hands and elbows- about twenty to twenty five minutes before you leave to avoid any itching or rashes.
TIP: For the face, you may opt for a cold cream formula. Don’t forget to apply generously on your face, neck and ears.
5. The moisturiser alone will not be sufficient when constantly under the sun in the water, as it will increase the chances of making your skin patchy. Make sure to apply a generous layer of sunscreen on exposed skin areas. This will also help protect you from color stains.
TIP: Make sure to select the moisturiser or sunscreen with the right SPF as per your requirement and skin type.
TIP: Apply some petroleum jelly behind and inside your earlobes.
TIP: Apply a lip balm with SPF on your lips.
TIP: Avoid a facial at least one week prior to Holi.
6. One aspect you cannot forget is your nails, which can remain stained for a long time due to their porous nature. Make sure to apply a dark-colored polish a day in advance.
TIP: Apply oil or petroleum jelly around your fingertips and cuticles.
7. Choose your clothing wisely. Dark colored, full sleeved cotton clothes would be the ideal choice and comfortable to carry.
POST HOLI: Avoid scrubbing you body. Stand under running water and rinse off the color with water.
8. Make sure to remove the color methodically using cotton swabs before using any body wash or soaps. Avoid using soap that is alkaline and makes the skin dry. Very hot water can also dry the skin, so keep it lukewarm.
TIP: Use a natural exfoliant like lemon peel or gram flour paste with milk before using a gentle body cleanser.
9. Moisturise your skin well after your shower to avoid any dryness. Apply a gentle face cream as per your skin type as well.
TIP: Apply aloe Vera gel or lacto calamine for minor breakouts.
10. Book an appointment at The White Door, your favourite skin and nail spa in Bandra, or at our Beauty & Nail Spa in Worli and ask for soothing services like a manipedi, calming face mask, or a head massage to rinse off any residue from the festivities.
· Keep a gap of five to seven days for a facial if you have any irritation or breakouts. Consult with your technician on the same. Book a facial spa in Bandra or Worli at The White Door where you can speak to any of our professionally trained staff about your skin requirements.
· A detox pedicure would go a long way to eliminate the toxic effects your body displays. Book a pedicure in Bandra or pedicure in worli at our spa to get rid of any toxicity while enjoying the benefits of a relaxing massage. We even offer Nail extensions, nail art, manicures in Bandra or a manicure in worli for those looking to get rid of any residual color or other damage.
· Hydrate: Drink atleast two to three litres of water.
